• ClubsmallWelcome

Our aim is to encourage and promote sailing and racing on Lake Windermere. We run an extensive racing programme from April to October, and social events throughout the year.

The Club was founded in 1860, and was granted its Royal Warrant during Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. We have occupied our present site at Bowness Bay since the 1880's. Our present club house was built in 1965.

  • 0barsmallCome and Join Us!

We are a sailing club with superb facilities, and an ideal location for sailing on England's largest lake, Windermere.

For over 150 years, the Royal Windermere Yacht Club has been at the centre of sailing on Windermere, and today maintains large and active fleets of keelboats and dinghies, and organises a full calendar of sailing and social events.

  • TrainingsmallLearn to sail on Windermere

We are an approved RYA Training and On Board Centre, and run regular training courses for both adults and children.
They are open to non-members as well as members. We exist to promote sailing and racing on Windermere, and we welcome people of all ages to get in touch and try the sport of sailing.

Children can join our Youth Squad, to continue with their sailing.

    Keelboat racing

We hold regular racing for several different classes of keelboats.
Our fleet of Windermere 17 footers, shown here, has developed continually since 1904.
We host open meetings for the classes that we sail, see our calendar.

  • CruisersmallCruiser Racing

In 2012 we adopted a Cruiser fleet, which race on Saturday and Sunday alongside our other classes.

All sailing cruisers are welcome to join in with our expanding fleet.

  • Hand3smallHandicap Racing

Dinghy handicap racing is on Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon this includes fleet races for GP14's.

On Monday evenings we have our Denis Hope series, starting around 6.30 whether dinghy or keelboat, fully crewed or singlehanded. All are welcome.

This is an ideal introduction to racing for new or prospective members.
