What we sail

Racing classes at the RWYC

We hold regular racing for several classes of dinghy and keelboat, listed below.

Other boats also race on handicap, so members are free to sail whatever they like.

Windermere Class Yachts

Windermere Class Yachts

The 17ft Windermere Class Yachts were first raced in 1904, and still maintain an active and competitive fleet today. The sight of these graceful yachts amongst the Lakes scenery is one of the things that makes sailing on Windermere so rewarding.

Flying Fifteens

Flying Fifteens

The Flying Fifteen is a twenty foot 2 person keelboat, designed to be sailed by a wide range of crew weights. At Windermere there is a large fleet with regular and competitive racing.

Dinghy Handicap Racing

Dinghy Handicap Racing

Alongside the regular races for GPs and RS400s, we hold handicap races for dinghies, so members can sail any type of dinghy they like. At present we have a regular fleet of Lasers, Solos, Phantoms and RS dinghies.

Cruisers

Cruisers

We have a growing fleet of Beneteau 21.7s which race regularly on Sundays. These are often joined by other classes, and sailed on PY handicap. All types of sailing cruisers are welcome.
